This is among one of the most debatable issues of all time. The late Michael Jackson, also referred to as “The King Of Pop” has countless of number 1 singles and this is why I have put myself in a difficult position by trying to name his top 5 songs. Still, this is my personal list and everyone of you are entitled to his/her opinions. Let’s move on.
Black or White
Now, I really don’t know if anybody at all who has not heard this song or don’t know this. It is one of my personal favorites (or else it wouldn’t be in this list right..duhh!!!) Anyways, the song features great music (including great guitar work by Slash of ex Guns N’ Roses) and a deep meaning to the lyrics. One of the best part of this song is that it has a song which can be interpreted in many different ways. Meaning, my interpretation of the song and lyrics may not be the same as yours. But what I can understand is that the song transcends all race, culture and color and calls for the world to unite as one. The musical arrangement is quite complex with the beats changing in many different parts to reflect the moods
Billie Jean
This is another of my firm favorite and I believe, for many of the late King of Pop’s fans. The music is groovy in a mysterious kind of way. It has been said that Billie Jean is not about any specific girl or individual in question. Rather, it is a song on the whole groupie scene as well as over-obsessive fans (it can be pretty scary I assure you). It is one of those songs that will stick in your head and get you humming for hours (I am humming to the tune as I write this hahahahhaha). Ohhh my..who can forget the great video that came together with this fantastic song? The song was huge in too many ways all over the world. I remember watching this as a kid and although I was too terrified, I still braved myself to watch it. The song was great and dancing…next to none. This will always be remembered as among Michael’s highlights which featured the perfect package of good song, good lyrics, good performance, good video…good..everything? This is another of my favorites. I grew up listening to this song when it was first released. I never grew out of it. It is hard not to love this song…it is catchy and features very poppy music. The song which has been recently covered by the group Fall Out Boy just shows how popular the song is. It is generally upbeat and funky but appeared to be aggressive in certain parts. How many out there remember the old French film noir, The Bride Wore Black starring Jeanne Moreau as a sexy, vengeful widow who gets even with those who killed her husband on their wedding day? Even if you don’t, the concept is obviously a strange one, for wearing black and being a bride don’t seem to mix. Well, that’s not the case with a gothic wedding ceremony where dark colors reign supreme in the midst of a complex philosophy that sprang from the punk rock movement of the 1980s.
A gothic wedding ceremony can be many things as long as it represents a rejection of mainstream beliefs and values. Elements of mysticism and ancient Druidic practice are seen in the unique wedding favors and costume elements of the ceremony. Goths consider themselves free thinkers attracted to the darker side of life. Still, some may choose to keep the wedding tradition intact while rejecting white in favor of darker more dramatic colors. While planning a wedding and the trimmings of wedding favors and such, the “Goth” couple must ask themselves if they want to affirm a philosophy or simply create a look.
The Gothic wedding dress may resemble those of the Middle Ages, Renaissance or the darker side of the underworld. White is allowed but usually not used except in conjunction with other darker colors, Styles can include puffed sleeves, plunging necklines and tightly cinched bodices. Just the right gothic flair could include a touch of dark velvet for the groom and his entourage and ruby red gowns for brides-maids. For a successful gothic wedding, all elements need to be in harmony in order to create the desired atmosphere. Seek venues with an older feel that invoke a sense of drama.
