The new era caps are the largest sports-licensed headwear company in the United States. The company is the premier cap provider for MLB, as well as a number of NBA and NHL franchises, plus a handful of major collegiate athletic programs.
Among the collections of new era caps, the 59-Fifthy are the popular choice of all. The 59-Fifthy is a structured, fitted, 100% polyester cap which is worn by Major League Baseball players and umpires during competition.

The hats, with the New York Yankees logo, were white and blue, the colors of the Crips, white and red, the color of the Bloods, and black and gold, the colors of the Latin Kings. Major League Baseball and the Yankees supported the move, claiming they were unaware of the color associations. A group called Peace on the Street picketed several stores selling New Era caps before the discontinuance was announced.

Two years ago, Sue O’Neil’s life changed forever when her beloved husband of 33 years, Tom O’Neil, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Less than four short months later, Tom died at their Wellesley, MA home.

Struggling to cope with her loss, O’Neil started reading about pancreatic cancer, the deadliest of all major cancers that kills 97% of those afflicted within 5 years, 50% within 6 months. In the US alone, pancreatic cancer kills over 33,000 people each year.

Little did she realize that her reading, and her penchant for hats, would ultimately result in the creation of O’Neil’s newly launched company, luvyourhat LLC, featuring a fun and funky unique line of hats. To honor Tom O’Neil’s memory and help save lives in the future, luvyourhat’s net proceeds will be donated to The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the largest private foundation for pancreatic cancer research in the United States.

O’Neil and her husband’s friends held their first fundraiser to fight pancreatic cancer in October, 2007, organizing a golf tournament in Tom’s honor that raised $25,000 for The Lustgarten Foundation.

Two weeks after the tournament, O’Neil found another way to fund research. O’Neil explains, “You see, I love to wear hats. When I wore them out with Tom, so many people complimented me on my hats that it became a joke between the two of us. Almost a year to the day after I had lost my husband, I wore my sparkle hat again. Three separate women stopped me to say “Luv Your Hat!” I smiled to myself and realized that this was it! I would sell hats and donate a portion of each sale to pancreatic cancer research.â€

Like your clubs, the clothes that you wear on the golf course can both benefit or adversely affect your game. A good golfer wears clothes that not only fit with a golf club’s dress code, but also allow him to play comfortably. Keep reading for some tips on golf apparel basics as well as critical gear for rain and windy conditions.
The Basics
1. Golf Shirt
At a minimum, your golf shirt should have a collar and be clean and pressed. Choose a fabric that breathes easily, like cotton, and a fit that allows you to comfortably move through a full swing. Don’t wear a shirt that is so tight it restricts your mobility.
2. Trousers or Shorts
Trousers should have belt loops and be belted. Shorts are acceptable on the golf course, but choose shorts that are an appropriate length. Also, always test your swing in a new pair of golf pants. You want to have a full range of comfortable motion.
How you dress on the course reflects on you and your attitude toward other players. Never wear jeans, cut-off shorts, sandals or old t-shirts on the course. These will be view as disrespectful of the game and your fellow players.
3. Hat
A hat is invaluable on the course. It keeps the sun out of your eyes, prevents sunburn and helps to keep your head cool. Any clean hat, free from inappropriate slogans will be acceptable on the golf course.
3. Golf Shoes
Most courses will only allow golfers with proper golf shoes on their course. Pick a golf shoe that fits comfortably. To ward off blisters, try breaking them in at home first before you venture off on a long game; and don’t forget to pack a pair of street shoes to wear after your golf round. Some players like waterproof, Gore-tex shoes, which are great for wet climates.

4. Light Jacket
Most golfers like to carry a lightweight jacket in case the weather turns chilly. Choose a compact, portable jacket (usually hip length) that will keep you warm if the sun clouds over or a little bit of drizzle starts.
For a fully waterproof jacket, opt for Gore-Tex. For something that’s water resistant, but a little lighter, choose a Teflon-treated fabric.
5. Heavier Rain Gear
First, you should never golf in a major storm, particularly if there’s thunder and lightning. Your gear and clubs can act like a lightning rod and pose a serious danger. However, if you find yourself in a light rain storm and want to play through, there are gear options available, such as full pant and jacket suits.
The most common material used in these suits is Gore-tex, which ideally should keep you dry and allow your skin to breathe naturally. A vinyl fishermen’s coat won’t do this.
Finally, always opt for clothing that’s clean and in good shape. Golf is traditionally considered a “gentleman’s sport.” It may seem old-fashioned, but how you dress during your round of gold is a reflection of how you view the sport, the course and your fellow players.

Can you wash a fitted wool baseball cap without shrinking and/or deforming it?
These new era baseball hats are great for guys like me with large heads, but every time I have tried to wash one it has ruined the hat by shrinking and warping the shape of the hat….those hat basket dishwasher things don’t work very well either, so I am looking for something else here…is there a better way to clean your cap? thanks for your advice.
Cold water, a special soap like zero or woolite, and no agitation will clean the cap and keep it from shrinking. What’s happening is that you are turning the wool into felt, which requires agitation, heat, and an alkali agent to compress the fibers. Removing the heat, agitation and the alkali soap should prevent the cap from felting. Keep the cap out of the washing machine (agitation) or the dishwasher, (heat and alkali detergent) and the dryer (heat and agitation). To properly care for a wool cap you should spot clean it everyday and brush out any accumulated dust and loose dirt. Use a bit of diluted dish detergent and a toothbrush to clean the sweat band when it gets too grungy, about once a week. Use a spot remover for dry clean fabrics on any obvious spots or stains. The cap should only be washed once a month, no more. Fill a bathroom sink with cold water and a little Zero or Woolite, gently immerse the cap, swish it around and then let it soak for about 15 minutes. gently squeeze out excess water, then allow to air dry. It should keep its size and shape.
My hubby has the same problem with caps; they are all too small for his head. It drives both of us crazy!
